On Sunday evening Travis took the kids and I down the Chena river in our canoe! Being father's day he thought we should all experience this trip together! I was a little apprehensive with Emmy in the boat but decided to take the plunge and give it a try! At first all was well. The kids were loving being on the water...the sun was shining...we basically had the whole rive to ourselves...it was one of the most relaxing evenings I had experienced in a long while...UNTIL...traffic picked up! Here we were in our little canoe and all of a sudden much bigger boats were flying around the corners...and creating waves much bigger than our little canoe wanted to see! Travis was able to keep our canoe from tipping over (much to my appreciation) but as Emmy and I sat in the front of the boat, one HUGE wave came over the top of the boat and SOAKED Emmy Grace! Up until this point...she was having a blast...she loves the water and was so content in her little life jacket...until the moment! At this point...she encountered her greatest fear in all her little life. She started SCREAMING! Granted, the water was VERY cold...and there was no where for her to go to get away...so she cried and cried and cried all the way down the river until we took out and got home! She even cried all the way home in the car! It was so sad...I felt so bad for her...poor Wes too...he just wanted her to be happy so he was singing her EVERY song he could think of to make her happy! To no avail though...even though it ended kindof rough, it was one of the most fun days I've ever spent with my family!
